Venkman for Firefox 1.5
Venkman, the Javascript debugger is a great debugging tool for Ajax and Javascript in Firefox.
It's real home is at Mozilla, however this page is fairly out of date and refers people to "the development site" for more up to date work. The Mozilla update page for Venkman is similarly out of date.
The Venkman Development website is more up to date, and from it we get an install that works in Firefox 1.0 and Mozilla suite, but it doesn't work with Firefox 1.5 without some hacking.
This page does refer to bug and patches in Bugzilla from which I've managed to extract and hack together a build that works in 1.5.
Download
So my hack allows it to load into Firefox 1.5. I've also applied some tweaks like altering the default font sizes, and I've fixed a few bugs like the multiple-load bug.
If you are having trouble, then just download this link and then drag the resulting .xpi file into a firefox window to install.
Discuss Venkman
There are a number of places to discuss Venkman:
- The Venkman newsgroup was netscape.public.mozilla.jsdebugger, but this has now moved to mozilla.dev.apps.js-debugger. You can post to it using the address <dev-apps-js-debugger at lists.mozilla.org>. You can also get at this using Google Groups.
- The Getahead website allows comments, but this page was getting too big with all the comments, so I've moved them to the archive page. At some stage we may setup a forum for it here.
